THE AUCKLAND CENTRE. SEASON'S BRIGHT PROSPECTS. The twenty-fifth annual meeting oi the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held on Saturday evening, Mr. W. Morton, president, occupied the chair, and welcomed, the delegates, especially Mr. L. W. Brown, who had come from Hamilton to represent his club. The annual report stated that 13 clubs affiliated during the season. The Onehunga and Te Awamutu Clubs had been, resuscitated after having been moribund for several seasons. It was anticipated that new clubs will be established shortly at Whangarei, Tauranga and elsewhere. Prospects for 1927-28 season appeared bright, and with the prospect of the Auckland City Council laying out a banked cycling and cinder running path at Western Springs. Auckland would soon be in possession of the finest sports ground in the Dominion. The centre was about to inaugurate a queen festival ocheme to assist its own funds and the finances of each of the affiliated clubs. The Auckland and Manukau Amateur Athletic and Cycle Clubs will hold events at. the Domain on Wednesday, commencing at 5.30 p.m. The Auckland Club will hold 100 yds. and 440 yds. handicaps and the Manukau Culb will decide one event, rsominations will close at six o'clock to-day. The outstanding performances at. an electric light meeting under the auspices of the Wellington Centre held at the Bnsin Reservo last evening, were those of G. Bayne who beat R. A. Rose by two yards in one mile in 4m 83s, and F. S. Ramson, who defeated the champion, R. W Lander, in both 120 and 440 yards hurdles races. Only scratch events were . included oi the programme, and the form displayed was 'of a high standard. The track was inclined to be heavy after recent rain There was an attendance of over 2000.
