OUTBREAK OF TYPHOID.

TAUPO NATIVES AFFECTED. PRECAUTIONS TO CHECK SPREAD. An outbreak of typhoid fever among natives at Taupo is engaging the attention of the Health Department. Of thirteen cases reported six have been diagnosed as positive, five are under suspicion and two cases showed negative tests but are being subjected to further examination. Of the positive cases three are fairly serious. Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health for the Auckland district, stated yesterday that Dr. Ellison, director of Maori hygiene, with Inspector Martindale, and the native nurse, were engaged in investigating all probable sources of infection in the district, and arrangements had been made for the immediate isolation of any further suspected cases which occur. Dr. J, Boyd, of the department, left Auckland for Taupo yesterday to assist Dr. Ellison in controlling the outbreak.
