OTAHUHU WORKSHOPS.
CONSTRUCTION DELAYED.
STOCKS OF STEEL DEPLETED.
Owing to the non-arrival of steel consignments construction work hag been suspended temporarily on various sections of the railway workshops at Otahuhu. The supply of steel girders and rafters has been almost depleted and the contractors have been forced to dismiss a number of men within the past fortnight. Difficulty was experienced in securing supplies of steel from England shortly after the general strike, which has accounted for the present delay. The framework of the steel-waggon shop has been erected, but the erection of the wood-waggon shop has been delayed owing to the absence of steel. No difficulty is being encountered in the erection of wooden-framed buildings and work is being pushed ahead on this section. It is anticipated the men will be re-engaged as soon as adequate supplies of steel come to hand on the steamer Matakana, in about a. week.
