Vincent last evening:—The general outlook for the weekend is unfavourable. Cloudy and unsettled weather is expected, with rain at intervals, particularly in west coast and southern districts, although fair periods will intervene, especially in the north. Westerly to north-westerly winds, strong to gale and squally. Rough seas on west coast. An intense and very energetic Antarctic disturbance is developing on the south-west Tasman Sea, moving eastward. Boistrous and wintry weather is expected, culminating in hail and thunder in western districts, and snow on the higher levels in the south. Barometric pressure will decrease everywhere, becoming very low in the South Island. The storm centre is likely to pass in the extreme southern portion of the Dominion.
