THE POLICE FORCE.
TRIBUTE TO CITY SERGEANT A high tribute to the work of Sergeant D. C- Calwell, who has been transferred from Auckland to Waihi, was paid by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. After the business of the Court was completed, the magistrate said last week he had had to bid farewell to Senior-Sergeant Edwards, and now he regretted to have to say goodbye to Sergeant Calwell. "You have been conducting cases for a number of years," said Mr. Hunt, "and you have conducted them all with great fairness. Mr. Cutten wishes me to pay a special compliment to you for your work as prosecutor in the Children's Court. I can only wish you every success in Waihi and hope to see you back in Auckland again before long, still further promoted." "On behalf of the legal profession, I have to say I am very sorry that Sergeant Calwell is leaving Auckland," said Mr. A. Moody. "The standard of prosecutions in this Court has always been very high, and Mr. Calwell has had his part in making it so." Sergeant Calwell briefly returned thanks. He said he had always received courtesy and assistance from both bench and bar.
