NOTICES OF SHIPPING.
COST TO THE POST OFFICE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON, Monday The cost to the Post Office of supplying daily notices of shipping movements in New Zealand is said to be between £4OOO and £SOOO a year. The Post Office has been carrying the burden for a number of years now without recompense, although the matter is more one for the Marine De partment to handle. In these days of urgent demands for administrative econo mies it may be argued that the community can get all the shipping information it wants from the daily newspapers.
