MOTOR-CYCLE CAPSIZES.
WAIKOUAITI BEACH FATALITY [By 'TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DUNEDIN. Monday An inquest concerning the death of Bertie Walter Earley, who was killed at Waikouaiti Beach yesterday as a result of his motor-cycle somersaulting, was opened to-day before Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M. It was stated that Earley, in company with Q, Hutchens and S. IBishop, went to Waikouaiti to try their cycles on the beach. A speed of about 40 miles an hour on second gear was reached by Earley, and Hutchens, who was riding close be bind, noticed thai the leading machine had developed a wheel " wobble." The cycle somersaulted and Earley was thrown clear and landed on his head, two or three yards away. He was seriously injured and was removed to a nearby house. A doctor was summoned. The cause of death was said to be dislocation of the neck and fracture of the base of the skull. Deceased, who was 21 years of age and a window-maker by trade, was an experienced motor cyclist and had ridden in races.' The cause of the accident is not definitely known, but the front tyre was torn completely off the wheel, although it did not burst. Th« inquest was adjourned sino die. i
