SAMOAN COMMISSION.

BANISHMENT OF NATIVES. PROPOSED DIVISION OF LAND. (Received October 7. 8.25 pja.) A. and N.Z. APIA, Oct. 6. At the sitting of the Samoan Commission to-day Fanmuina said he endorsed the account given by the former witness, La go Lago, of their common banishment. He was opposed to the hospital tax, the restriction on the gifts of fine mats, and the proposed subdivision of lands. The subdivision would make the young men independent of the heads of their families, which would be a bad thing. He himself had procured the banishment of a young man from witness' village in 1924, but that had been desired by the chiefs and the orators of the place.
