HOUSE OF LORDS.

THE PROBLEM OF REFORM. ATTITUDE OF CONSERVATIVES., 'British Official Wireless.) (Received October 7, 7.35 p.m.) A. and N.Z. RUGBY, Oct. 6. The conference of the Conservative Party in Cardiff adopted, with only four dissentients, a resolution congratulating the Government on its resolve to deal with the reform of the House of Lords during the life of the present Parliament, and promising support for " those measures necessary to ensure that the will of the people shall be safeguarded hy an effective second Chamber." Lord Londonderry argued an attempt to reform the House of Lords would bring disaster on the Conservatives hy giving their opponents the slogan, " Peers versus the People." It would be perilous to attempt to thwart the expressed will of the electors. Lord Selborne replied that Lord Londonderry had been asleep. Even the Liberals admitted that reform was necessary. Lord Londonderry retorted that even the Conservatives were divided on the question.
