ABUSE OF GENEROSITY.
GIFT BOOKS PROMPTLY SOLD. The other day a New Plymouth minister was visited by a "down-and-out" looking man and told the usual h-yd-luck story. The man was given an order on a boarding house for a bed and tea and breakfast. Before departing he explained that he was on his way to Wellington but feared his boots would not last the journey, the sole 3 being almost worn out. The minister took him to a boot shop and there had him fitted with another pair. Later on in the day, the swagger called at the boot shop again, bringing with him his old boots to be patched up, stating that the new ones were uncomfortable to walk in. Later the police informed the ministar that the man he had helped had sold the new boots for less than half the price and had departed from the _ town in his original pair, doubtless to spin the i (mim> plausible tale to other people*
