FATE OF RELIEF WORKER. [BY TELEGRAPH. OW~N CORRESPONDENT. j RAETIHI. Tuesday An inquest was opened concerning the death of Mr Edward Peterson, who was fatally injured on Saturday by a fail of j papa rock while working on relief work ] for the Public Works Department at Pangataua. Wangaehu Valley Road The evidence went to prove that do • eased and Arthur Bullock were working on the rid ire of a cliff about 250 ft above the river Peterson had been tunnelling and drilling, getting in readiness for a charge of gelignite, when without any warning a projecting papa rock 150 ft above biro came hurtling down. _ A large boulder struck deceased and threw hire down the face of the cliff within a few feet from the Wangaehu River Bullock was also hit by pieces of roc ft and was forced near the edge of the ridge.. Hans 'Scott, who was nearby, seeing Bollock's .perilous position, immediately went to his assistance. It was found that he was injured in the hin, and he was brought tn to the Rac-tihi Hospital. where he is still an inn.ate. Pending the doctor's evidence tb« inquest was adjourned sine d.».
