Bush fires in the Esk district caused very considerable damage to property and fencing. The residents had to tight the flames, which came within half a mile of Esk township. Julius Schulz was trapped by the flames and so seriously burned that he succumbed. North of Ipswich many thousands of acres have been burned out and miles of fencing destroyed. The fires show no signs of diminishing and many outlying settlements are in danger.
