DISCARDED CHEQUE CASHED
THEFT CHARGE ADMITTED. [it* TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDEKT. ] HAMILTON. Wednesday. The theft of a cheque for £2 lis was admitted by Sydney James Bishop, aged 42, in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day. The circumstances were unusual. Bishop, in a statement, said he was employed as a cook at Orini, and when he was discharged on Monday he was paid his wages with a cheque for £2 lis. His employer remembered that he had some deductions to make, so he took the ciieque back and threw it away and issued another in its stead. Bishop regained possession of the first cheque and cashed it. Accused was remanded untii Friday for the probation officer's report.
