INCORRECTLY ADDRESSED.
FORWARDING OF LETTERS.
Very great annoyance, and sometimes hardship, has been occasioned by persons detaining letters which have' reached them through being incorrectly addressedj or for some other reason; The post office takes a serious view of-the detention of postal packets. The Post and Telegraph Act provides that every person who contrary to his duty wilfully delays or detains a postal packet or procures or suffers the same to be detained or delayed is liable on indictment to imprisonment for any term not exceeding two years, with or without hard labour, or to a fine of £SO, or to both. A local business man has suggested that when correspondence is left at a wrong address the householder or business man who receives the letter should immediately hand it back to the postman, or, failing an opportunity to do so, should write the word "Not" in front of the address and immediately repost it.
