MOTOR-CAR IN CREEK.
TAXI MUCH DAMAGED. * LONG IMMERSION IN WATER. Considerable difficulty was experienced in salvaging the Checker taxi-cab which fell from the Whau Bridge at Avondale, into the creek below, on Tuesday evening. The car fell a distance of 20ft. and overturned. Fortunately the tide was out at the time and there was only a depth of three or four feet of water. The company immediately despatched a breakdown gang to the scene of the mishap, and the car was placed on its wheels. Salvaging operations had then to be abandoned owing to the darkhess and the incoming tide. The undertaking was continued at an early hour yesterday morning and, with the aid of two powerful motor lorries.'the car was finally dragged on to the road shortly before one o'clock in the afternoon. The car was later towed into the city. The body of the taxi was damaged extensively by the fall and the engine was considerably harmed by the long immersion.
