TRANSMITTER AT 2BL.
HIGH POWER PROPOSED. In anticipation of radical changes in broadcasting in Australia, arrangements have been made by 2BL, Sydney, for the erection of a new and powerful station. A site with a high altitude situated some distance outside the city has been tentatively selected, as this will give the transmitter uniaue facilities for long-dis-tance broadcasting. It is the intention of the directors to ask for permission to increase the transmitting-power considerably above the five kilowatts which is the highest power allowed at present for any broadcasting station 'in Australia. The erecting of the actual transmitting apparatus of a broadcasting station well outside the city area is contended by many radio experts to be necessary to prevent inter-station interference. This is in accordance with the recommendations of the United States Radio Commission. There is no doubt, therefore, that in Australian cities where more than one high-power station is in simultaneous operation the respective transmitting plants will need to be some miles fromthe cities.
