CARS STRIKE POSTS.
MISHAPS AFTER A BALL.. WOMAN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. [BY . TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. When returning from the ball of the Licensed Victuallers* Association, between two and three o'clock this morning, a car containing Mr. Stanley Ashtoa, of Westminster Street, and Miss J. Smith, of Winchester Street, crashed into a telegraph pole. As a result Miss Smith received severe lacerations and was taken to the Lewisham Hospital, where she was operated on today for a wonnd on the chin. The driver was not injured, but the car was considerably damaged. At 4 a.m. to-day Mr. F. S. Lawrence, licensee of the Club Hotel, was returning from the licensed victuallers* ball, - and as he was turning his car from Colombo Street it" skidded. The rear portion crashed into two verandah posts, which fell and smashed a plate-glass window of Mr. Ingold's drapery shop, which is almost opposite the Club Hotel.
