MYSTERY AT BANK.

STRONGROOM LOCK JAMMED. BROKEN KEY THE OBSTRUCTION. DELAY CAUSED TO BUSINESS* [BY TELEGEAPH. —OWN CORB.ESPOKDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. After numerous fruitless attempts to open it a locksmith found a broken key in the lock of the strongroom door of the National Bank this morning. As a result the bank premises will be under continuous police survellience to-night. The outside doors had not been tampered with and all keys of the strongroom were accounted for, thus giving the affair an air pf mystery. of the staff sleep on the upper storey of the premises, but they were not disturbed by any unusual noises during the night. Mr. Spartam, chief inspector from Wellington, who is relieving the manager, Mr. C. J- Ronaldson, said he preferred not to discuss the matter. Business was held up for some time in the morning, all the bank's money, bills and other documents being locked up. Temporary arrangements had to be made with another bank to meet customers.
