POST OFFICE BANKS.
EXCESS OF WITHDRAWALS. LARGE AMOUNT INVOLVED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON. Thursday During the quarter ended June 30 last there were heavy withdrawals from the Post Office Savings Banks, the excess of withdrawals over deposits amounting to £745,050. For the same quarter last year there was an excess of deposits of £323,894. Only one office, that at Westport, showed an excess of deposits over withdrawals. The amount in this case was £3892. The excess of withdrawals in each of the four cities was:—Auckland. £105,833; Christchurch, £77,826; Dunedin, 103,743; Wellington, £76,505. Other large excesses of withdrawals over deposits for the quarter were:—New Plymouth, £66,314; Palmerston North. £61,715; W 7 anganui, £60,934. The revenue of the Post' and Telegraph Department for the quarter ended June 30 totalled £853,919, against £863,028 in the corresponding quarter last year.
