SKI-ING AT TONGARIRO.
LACK OF ACCOMMODATION. HUTS BOOKED A YEAR AHEAD. NECESSITY FOR NEW HOSTEL. [BS TELEGHAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.] NATIONAL PARK, Thursday, Thß need for further accommodation for visitors to the Tongariro National Park was illustrated at the annual meeting oi the Ruapehu Ski Club last evening, when it was stated that next year the club would be unable to secure the usual date for its annual camp at Whakapapa huts, owing to the fact two other parties from Auckland, from University College and the Tararua Tramping Club, had already booked accommodation more than a year in advance. The most suitable date available loe the club's camp was early in August or early in September. This announcement caused some concern, as a considerable proportion of those who attend the annual camp are school teachers whose holidays fall during the last week in August and the first week in September. The opinion was expressed thai as the club has pioneered winter sports at National Park and as its camp has been held regularly for a number of years on approximately the same date, it should be given priority of- booking, As the whole of the available accommodation had not been booked by the two parties referred to, it was suggested that a smaller party for teachers should be organised during the school holidays. It was pointed out that it would be impossible for two parties to cook meals in the one kitchen, and the position seemed somewhat uncertain in view of the proposed erection of a hostel and cottages at Whakapapa during the approaching summer. It was decided to leave the. matter in the hands of the committee. The question whether accommodation should be booked at the huts or at the proposed hostel in future was unanimously decided in favour of the huts. RUAFEHTT GLUB MEETIKtt. ' ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
