A FAITHFUL FRIEND.
SETTLER'S CATTLE DOG. I WARNING OF ACCIDENTS. Money will nol; buy 'Tim," the; cattle dog of Whitford. Twice he has been a faithful aid to the family of his master, Mr. C. Dando, iin time of serious accident. It was "Tim" who, by his timely warning last week, drew the attention of a passer-by to the :iact that his master had been thrown oveir a bank in the Maungaroa Gorge, Howick, and Mr. Dando was found lying semi-conscious in the dark. After he had been taken to hospital "Tim" stood by the damaged sulky until the following morning.
"Tim" was there also when Mrs. Dando find three children were victims of another sulky accident at almost exactly the same spot in January of last year. Her little boy did not recover from his injuries. "Tim" remained with the horse on that occasion until it was brought home the following, day.
"Tim" is a splendid cattle dog and a first-class watch dog, and a great chum of a little son oi: Mrs. Dando's. He is quite young. He has never been used to petting or soft words, and to persuade him to pose for the camera was not at 'all an easy matter.
