SMALLER VESSEL FOUNDERS. Bi Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Roreived August 31, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON, Aug. 30. As the result of a collision with the P. and 0. steamer Bel tan a the steamer Torringfon, of tlw3 Harrison Line, was sunk at the mouth of the Thames. The two steamers were proceeding together down Gravesend Reach when the former vessel struck and cut in halves a small motorboat which had broken down. The sole occupant of the motor-boat jumped into the river and was rescued by a tug. The Beltana then swung round and her propeller holed the Torrington. which sank alongside a wharf. The Beltana was able to proceed on her voyage to Australia. The Tloltana is a steel twin-screw vessel of 11,167 tons. She was built in 191.2 by Cnird and Company, Greenock, for the P. and 0. Company. The Torrington fg a steel screw steamship of 691 tons, length 180 ft., built at Paisley last year for Messrs. Harrison and Company.
