ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
SCHOOLBOYS' TOURNAMENT. THE FIRST DAY'S RESULTS. The Association football inten?rovincial tournament for the Webster Shield, for competition among schoolboys' teams, was commenced at Victoria Pavk yesterday afternoon. Rain fell heavily all the afternoon and the ground was in a heavy state. The first match, between Wellington and Waikato, provided an even contest in the opening stages. After end-to-eni play a mix-up in the Waikato goal enabled Wellington to score. Many chances were missed until Millchanny equalised for Waikato. Wellington had to battle hard to regain the lead, Ongley eventually scoring. Time was called shortly afterwards'with the score:— Wellington, 2; Waikato, 1. / The second, between Auckland and Manawatu, proved a better contest, and although Auckland ran out easy winners the match was for the most part evenly contested. The Auckland forwards combined well and a feature was the clever play of Yarriton. at outside left. The score at half-time was one goal each, but in the second half Auckland kept Manawatu on the defensive and goals were scored by Haggett, Everett and pickson. The final score was:—Auckland, 4: Manawatu, 1. _ , The tournament will be continued this afternoon. Waikato will play Manawatu at two o'clock and Wellington and Auckland will meet at three o'clock.
