UNLICENSED DANCE HALL.
A CHARGE DISMISSED. A charge of keeping an unlicensed dance hall was preferred against three men, B Berry. (Mr. Haigh), and M Jakick arid H. Watts (Mr. Armstrong), in the Police Court yesterday. Mr. Haigh said the defendants managed a cabaret in Karangahape Road, and they were approached by the City Council, which had stipulated that alterations should be carried out to the building. These had been done, but the fire superintendent had stated a fire escape must be provided before a licence could be granted The defendants had since gone ahead with the construction of a fire csc&p© And the work ba.d boGn completed the previous day. The magistrate said that the position seemed satisfactory.' He ordered the defendants, who had formally pleaded guilty, to pay costs.
