ENTERTAINMENTS.

NATIONAL THEATRE. " Lost at Sea," a stirring melodrama, heads the current programme at the National Theatre. Lowell Sherman, who will be remembered for his recent performance in " Satan in Sables," has an even more appropriate role as the cold and brutal husband of Natalie Travers, played by Jane Novak. After many years of wretchedness with Norman Travers, Natalie finds happiness with Richmond Lane (Runtly Gordon), but not before they have passed through many adventures, invqlving a shipwreck and the mysterious death of Norman Travers. According to a critic Jano Novak s success in this unusual role marks her as one of the most versatile actresses on the screen. " The Daring Years,'" featuring Clara Bow and Mildred Harris, is the chief supporting picture. MUNICIPAL BAND. An enjoyable recital was given in the Town Hall last evening by the Auckland Municipal Band, under the baton of Mr. Christopher Smith. An excellent selection was provided by the programme of seven items. The first number, the prize march, "Treue um Treue (Arnold liust), was followed by a delightful rendering of Suppe's overture, "Light Cavalry. The cornet solo which followed, "Shepherd's Morning Song" (Suppe), was played by Mr. Fred Bowes. Variations, "The Harmonious Blacksmith," by Handel, came next, and then Mr Ilal C. McLennan presented the flute solo, "La Traviata" ( Verdi-Popp). A pleasing programme was completed by a march, "The Vanished Army," by Alford, and a selection, Leo Fall s "Madame Pompadour." ORGAN RECITAL. In aid of the new organ fund an organ recital will be held at All Saints Church, Ponsonby, next Wednesday evening.
