POPULATION GAINS 284,493. LARGE CANADIAN INFLUX. (Received August 21, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. WASHINGTON. Aug 20. For the fiscal year ended June 30 the net increase in the immigrant population was 284,493, compared with 268,351 last year. The largest number came from Canada, 8*j ; 606; Mexico sent 67,721; the Irish I ret State, 28,054; and Britain, 24,160.
