ONEHUNGA POULTRY CLUB.

DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. The prizes won at the recent show of the Onehunga Poultry Club were presented by the patron. Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., at a social on Saturday evening. Mr. Jordan congratulated the officials on the success of the show. He said the census showed that within the borough there were 1081 poultry-keepers, with flocks ranging up to 200, but about half iiad flocks of 12 or under. Mr. W. A. Hanson, one of the judges at the show, stated that on the whole the exhibits were very good, especially the American Leghorns, Silver Wyandottes and Rhode Island Reds, whue there was a first-class display of white Indian Runner ducks. The Minorcas and English Leghorns, however, were not up to the standard of last year. Mr. J. Simpson expressed his disappointment that canary-breeders had not more fully responded to the efforts of the club to make this a strong section, with good prizes and plenty of classes. Canaries were an interesting hobby, but when the exhibits in each class were small in number it made the work of judging very dull. Mr. E. G. Jarrett, Government, poultry instructor, pronounced the show a great success, and emphasised the benefit of competitive exhibitions. An interesting musical programme was given and after supper the hall was cleared for dancinc.
