USING GOVERNMENT FUNDS.

PARTY PROPAGANDA. CHARGE AGAINST MR. LANG. The Leader of the New South Wales Opposition, Mr. Bavin, recently charged the Premier, Mr. Lang, with using public funds for political purposes. "Another illustration of the way iri which the Government is using public funds for its own political purposes," Mr. Bavin said, "is to be found in the issue of a series of pamphlets from the Government Printing Office purporting to explain the legislation that has been , passed by the Government. It these pamphlets merely gave an explanation of the legislation there might be something to be said for them, but each one of thetn has a foreword, signed by Mr. Lang, which is in effect a political placard advertising the virtues of the Lang Government." "Surely Mr. Lang might have been satisfied with appointing three publicity officers, at an annual cost of £2400 to the taxpayer, to advertise his eminent services to the public oi New South Wales. Until this Government came into office, this kind of thing has been generally regarded as a charge upon party funds. It is surely a little hard on the taxpayers who are paying very heavily in one way or another for the policy of the Lang Government, that they should have to pay- still more for the writing and printing of press statements and pamphlets to show what a blessing this policy is to them."
