THE DOMAIN SHELTERS.

ACCEPTANCE OF NEW SITE. CITY COUNCIL'S POSITIOiN. BUILDINGS NOT PERMANENT. The committee —comprising representatives of the Hospital Board and Red Cross and Patriotic Associations —appointed to go into the question of the future location of tubercular patients in the Domain, decided yesterday to accept the offer of the City Council of a site adjoining the Domain and hospital grounds and commanding a fine view of the city and harbour Referring to the council s stipulations that the shelters should be limited to providing accommodation for the 11 cases at present in the Domain and to four additional cases to be transferred from the Cost ley shelters and that, as each shelter is vacated, it must, he removed, the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, who presided, said this was done to assure themselves that the shelters would not be permanently placed there. He did not think the City Council should be asked to come into < the matter at all. It was a question for the Government. Mr. E. J. Phelan said the idea of imposing the restrictions was also to make the Government realise that the council was not to bo responsible for a site for ever. The council's offer was unanimously accepted and the hope was expressed that everv consideration would be shown the future requirements of the patients. | A committee, comprising the Mayor and Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Hospital Board, and Mr. Sinclair Reid, president of the Returned Soldiers' Association, was appointed to draw up plans, specifications and estimates in connection with the removal of the patients from their present Domain site. , Regarding complaints that the new site encroached on the Domain, the Mayor said he felt sure few people knew it was Domain property at all. Many thought it belonged to the hospital. When the patients were there few would be aware of it.
