LINK WITH DICKENS.

A link with Charles Dickens, and a fatal accident to a Leeds artist, are recalled by the death, at the age of 87. at Worcester, of Mr. Arthur Atkins, who was for many years manager of the Oxford Canal Company at Hawkesbury, Coventry. When Mr. Atkins was a junior clerk at tho Braunston ofhee ot the company, Dickens and Leigh Hunt, who were making a tour of the Midland canals, called there. Some boat-cabin articles which Atkins had painted attracted tho attention of Dickons, who made several purchases. Years later, the famous novelist visited Hawkesbury Hall, and a cousin of Atkins, a Leeds artist. Mr. John Wells Smith, was invited to meet him. Mr. Smith met with a fatal accident while on a visit to Warwickshire about 30 years ago.
