WATER IN MILK.

DAIRY FARMER FINED. PROSECUTION AT DARGAViLLE. [3Y TBU6RAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] DARGAVILLE. Friday. A charge of selling milk containing 12 por cent, of added water was recently preferred against a farmer, William K. Mackie, who supplies a Dargaville milk vendor with milk. When the case was heard, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., reserved his judgment, which was delivered today. [n his judgment the magistrate said defendant had not availed himself of the clause in the Act which allowed him to challenge the analyst's report, nor did he have the sample left with him analysed. Tie considered the methods of analysis adopted by the department afforded a simple and reliable means of testing the purity of milk and detecting adulteration with water. Defendant was therefore fined £25, plus costs, on the first charge and convicted and ordered to pay costs on the second, that of selling milk which did not comply with the standard prescribed by the regulations.
