THEFT OF TWO CHEQUES.

PROBATION FOR YOUNG MAN. The theft of two cheques for a total amount of £1 18s was admitted by Gay Oarnev, aged 24, in the Police Court yesterday. Accused had taken the cheques from a house in which he was staying at Wairnauku, said Chief-Detective Ward. He disappeared after cashing them with tradesmen. His present employer, a farmer at Panmure, was willing to take him back. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, admitted accused to 12 months' probation and ordered him to make restitution.
