NEW ZEALAND TITLES. SUCCESSES TO AUCKLAND. SOME INTERESTING CONTESTS. [BY TELEGKAFH. —rRESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL. Friday The finals of th& New Zealand boxing championships were contested this evening • before a record attendance. Titles were won as follows: —Auckland, two; Wellington, two; Taranaki, two; Canterbury, one; and Otago, one. The new title-holders are: —Fly-weight, N T . Roefcfuck (Taran-ki); bantam-weight, J, O'Sullivan (Auckland); feather-weight, T. Donovan (Taranaki); light-weight, E. .Morgan (Wellington); welter-weight, E. Armishaw (Auckland); middle-weight, C. Pocock (Canterbury); light-heavy-weight, A. J. Cleverley (Wellington); heavyweight, J. G. Leckio (Otago). The John Jameson Belt, for the mos/ scientific display of the tournament, was won by J. O'Sullivan, the Auckland bantam-weight champion. Details are as follows: — Ely-weights. —Final: S. Purton (Greymouth), 7st. 91b., lost to N. Roebuck (Taranaki), 7st 91b Determined work by the Taranaki boxer flustered Purton, who weakened as the bout progressed. Bantam-weights.—J. O'Sullivan (Auckland), Bst., beat C. Brosnahan (Christchurch), Bst., on points, after a willing fight. It was a close decision. H. Larsen (Wellington), Bst., beat W. Parker (Otago), 7st. . 101b., on points. Larsen made it a fight from start to finish. It was a popular win. Final: 0 Sullivan (Auckland) beat Larsen (Wellington). Larsen boxed well in the final round, and was the most popular figure at the tournament. Feather-weights. —Final: T C. Donovan (Taramlki), Bst. 101b., beat W. G. Leckie (Otago), Bst. 121b., on points. Except for the final round Leckie was outclassed by his unorthodox opponent, who out-punched and out-boxed him. Light-weights. —Final: E. Morgan (Wellington), 9st. 101b., beat A. Jones (Southland), 9st. 81b., on points. Both men were manoeuvring to deliver the knock-out most of the time. .Morgan won easily, but did not force matters Welter-weights.—S. Hughes (Otago), lOst 51b., lost to E. Armishaw (Auckland), lOst. 41b., after a very even bout. iFnal: 0. Jnggers (Christchurch) lOst. lost to Armishaw (Auckland). Jaggers forced the fighting all the way, but COU.d not break through the Aucklander s longer reach iu the earlier stages From midwav in the second round the fighting was hectic and aroused great enthusiasm from the crowd. Cotter rushed into a rirrht drive to the chin and knocked his head on the floor. He was trying to rise at the count of 10. Pocock had a clear lead on points at the time.
