NEW TRAM SECTIONS.

KARANGAHAPE'S PROTEST.

SERVING SHOPPING AREA.

Opposition to some sectional alterations proposed by the City Council under the "penny fare" system, was expressed at last evening's meeting by a deputation representative of the Karangahape Road Business Protection Society.

That body, it was explained, advocated that the sections on the western circuit (Ponsonby) be Pitt Street (as at present), Richmond Road and Three Lamps —not as recommended by the Tramways Committee, one section to St. Matthew's, two to the reservoir, and three to Three Lamps. Pitt Street, the deputation emphasised, was the business heart of Karangahape Road and the public would always travel to, the end of a section if there were shopping facilities there. It was feared the proposed alteration would seriously affect the business area now so well served. The matter was referred to the Tramways Committee, the deputation to be asked to attend the meeting of that body.
