Great interest has been aroused in tho forthcoming New Zealand golf championship meeting, tho entries for which close to-morrow evening. The first North Auckland championship will be played on the Mount Denby links from August 25 to 27. To golfers * who have never seen these links a pleasant surprise is in store. Tho links are among the prettiest in New Zealand, and the fairways and greens at present are equal to the best. The holes aro cut out through native bush and straight play is demanded The lengths are from 120 yards to 520 yards, and embrace all kinds of holes—dogleg, uphill, and downhill. The greens tucked up against the bush show up beautifully, and the tracks through the bush from tee to green make a round at Mount Denby most pleasant. To players who cannot enter for Hamilton the Whangarei tournament offers a pleasant golfing holiday. TAURANG A CHAMPIONSHIPS. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA, Thursday. The first round of the men's golf championship resulted as follows:—Matheson defeated Gonlding, Pott, defeated Hetherington, Gibbs defeated Roche, Ralfe defeated Bryan. In the junior championship Snodgraas defeater Jbbetson, Guinness defeated Hanna, Ivory defeated Boyd. Tizard and Baker have still to play. GLENDOWIE CLUB.
