WORK OBTAINED BY FRAUD.

RELIEF COMMITTEE DECEIVED OFFENCES BY YOUNG MAN. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. In the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. .E. D. Mosley, S.M., Harold Geoffrey Kingston, 21, pleaded guilty to the charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, in that he did impose on the Citizens' Helief Committee. Chief-Detective Lewis said Kingston had applied to the committee for work, and had been given it on his stating that ho was a married man with two children, which was untrue. Accused had been before the Court a few days ago on charges of stealing two overcoats, and had been remanded until the probation officer's report could be received. The magistrate said tlie report was of the worst possible description, and there was nothing to bo said in accused's favour. lie had defrauded numbers of people. Acused was convicted and ordered to be detained at the Borstal Institute for <1 period not exceeding two years on the charges of theft, and Was convicted and discharged on the charge of being a rogue and a vagabond.
