REVIEW OF YEAR'S WORK. FINANCE FOR NEW HOSTEL. Tho annual meeting of the Y.W.C.A. was held last evening. The president, Mrs. C. W. Garrard, said that according to the financial report the association had exceeded its budget to the extent of £133. This was due to extra expenses for renovations to the administration building. With regard to an increase of the mortgage on the a Y.W.C.A. building, this was advised to meet the outlay occasioned by the building of a new hostel. The greater part of this money had been raised by the recent hostel campaign. Tho association in the last few years had progressed most satisfactorily. It was hoped the new hostel, which would house over one hundred girls, would be near completion at the end of the year. The association in various ways endeavoured to meet the needs of the girls and women oi' the city. As life became more strenuous it was to be expected the women of the community would be faced with greater difficulties, and to meet these every effort was.made by the association. The financial report was read by Mrs. M. Rudd. Miss Jean Begg, general secretary, said the association was accomplishing a great work in the city. Girls were now crowding to its doors eager to enter into the life within. The various activities were, year by year, growing and the membership increasing. The association now numbered 19,000 members. The cafeteria was daily patronised by working girls from all over the city and during the year 75,298 meals were served. The gymnasium classes were most popular and were doing much toward bringing perfect physical fitness within the reach of girls who were living sedentary lives. In every branch of the work efficient and competent leaders and teachers were put in charge. The social instinct of the girls was also oatered for, and by this means they were able to widen their interests and extend the community spirit. The election of. officers resulted :—President, Mrs. C. W. Garrard, re-elected; board of directors, Mrs. J. C. Dickinson, Mrs. J. Wiseman, Mrs. J..W. Tattersfield, Mrs. C. W. Garrard, Mrs. C. Smith, Mrs. F. M. Hay, Miss D. Dempsey, re-elected, Mrs. L. Clark and Miss A. C. Button. An interesting address on "The Romance of Money" was given by Mrs. H. Anderson, who has recently returned from China, where she worked with the Y.W.C.A. V
