CAPTAIN GILES' PLANS.
NOT IN HONOLULU RACE. attempt to reach dominion. a. and N.'Z. DETROIT, Aug 16. Tlio Australian aviator, Captain F. A. Giles, is duo to arrive at the Selfridge Field, Detroit, to-day from Wyandotte. He' proposes to start from here on an attempted night to Wellington, New Zealand. The first stop will bo at San Francisco. Captain Giles had intended to take off on Monday, but he discovered that acid was seeping from a defective storage battery and had rotted a large portion of the fabric from the lower part of the fuselages in his plane. This.,.prevented the machine from entering the Dole race to Hawaii because it could not be repaired in time.
