PARNELL TENNIS COURTS.

Sir, —I have seen it stated that tennis courts to he laid out io Parncil Park will probably be put down in grass. It is to be hoped that the powers that bp will put the courts down in some hard material to admit of winter play. We have manv fine winter days on which many of our players long for a game, especially lady players who have more time on their hands Local tennis enthusiasts look forward to the day when a large number of publicly-owned, hardsurfaced tennis courts will be available to players, it is realised, however, that the city authorities cannot be expected to do much in the matter unless fche courts can be made to pay their way. Therefore the Parnell courts may be regarded as an experiment, and if justified, the council will no doubt provide more courts in the different suburbs. It will therefore be very unfortunate if the prospect of financial success is marred by making the wrong kind of courts. With eight or ten good hard courts Parneil Park will become a very popular rendezvous, winter and summer, and with swimming facilities near by will do much to enhance the rental value of the very fine kiosk which is at present a white elephant. Old Times.
