DEBATE AT PAPATOETOE.

The Papatoetoc Literary and Debating Society met on Tuesday evening, when a party from the Auckland University College was present. "That women, in nil departments of life, are on an equality with men," was the subject of an interesting debate. The affirmative was taken by Miss M. Morey, Mr. Moore and Mr. Owen, and the negative by Miss Creek, Mr. Simpson and Mr. Wills. The "Rev. T. H. Roseveare presided and Mr. Beattie was judge. His ruling was in favour of the negative by 232 points to 215. At the next meeting of the society a lantern lecture will be given by Mr. C. Firth.
