ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIVES

MATCH AGAINST CANADA.

TEST PLAYERS DROPPED*

The Auckland representative Association Football team to play Canada at Blandford Park on Saturday afternoon has been chosen by the sole selector, Mr. A. P. Neesliam, as follows: Goal, Batty (Tramways); backs, Gerrard (North Shore), Reid (Thistle): halves. Carter (Thistle). Christie (Thistle), Dickson (Thistle); forwards, lanes (Ponsonby), captain, Dunsmore (Thistle), Spencer (Tramways), Miles (Navy Depot), Humphreys (Y.M.C.A.). Reserves: Lyon (Northcote), Wright (Ponsonby). , 'fhe players will meet at Blandford Park at 7.30 p.m. to-morow. The team as chosen is a very strong one, comprised of players who have shown fine form in club football this season and who combine pace with weight. Of the men chosen to train, Tinkler, Jones and Hislop, three of this year's Dominion representatives, and Cumming and Mooney have been passed by. The omission of the three players who took part in the tests against the Canadians is justified. No doubt Jones spoiled his chances by his game against Canada last Saturday. Tinkler was considered lucky to be chosen for New Zealand in view of his failure to reproduce his club form of last season, while Hislop has evidently been omitted because of the incapacitation of his regular partner. Kay. Another factor probably influencing the selector was that Hislop plays more to the ball and does, not use his weight. His place has been taken by Miles, the Navy player whose versatility is well known, while Humphreys has been placed on the left wing. Spencer is the only possible choice as centre-forward. As the result of his great improvement in recent matches Dunsmore has been given his chance, with Innes, who played a grand game in last Saturday's test, as his partner on the right wing; Mr. Neesbam has paid Thistle the compliment of selecting its half-line without alteration. This is a wise move. Much will depend upon the halves and the three Thistle footballers have already proved their reliability. The choice o£ Gerrard, Reid and Batty as a rearguard occasions no surprise.
