NUCLEUS OF A GANG.

FOUR BOYS BEFORE COURT.

"This is just the nucleus of a gang, and should be broken up in its initial stages," said Senior-Sergeant Edwards in the Children's Court on Saturday when four small boys appeared to answer a variety of charges. Two of the boys were charged with assault on another small boy, a newspaper runner, on two successive days, and two other boys were charged with threatening behaviour. One of the boys was also charged with throwing stones on the roof of a house. Two of the boys were remanded for a fortnight to enable them to obtain work in the country. The magistrate, Mr. Cutten, said they would be committed to an institution if they could not obtain situations. The other two boys were placed under the supervision of the probation officer for two years.
