WEEKLY WESTFIELD SALE.

BEEF MARKET FIRMER. KEEN DEMAND FOR SHEEP. A firmer tendency in the beef market was the principal feature of the weekly Westfield fat stock sale yesterday. There was a large yarding of first-class quality and competition was keen. Quotations per 1001b. show pi'actically no change from last week, hut the tone of the market is reported to be much improved. Sheep were offered in small numbers. Under lively competition prices advanced slightly for prime wethers. Lambs came forward in average numbers and sold at recent rates. .There was a steady demand for pigs, but on the whole values were lower. Ltd., report:— We penned fat cattle to the number of 397 head, as compared with 571 at last Wednesday's sale, comprising 224 steers and 173 cows and heifers. The quality generally was first-class. Competition v, r as decidedly keener and heavy prime steers were firmer by fully 15s a head. Extra choice ox sold to £1 7s per 1001b; choice and prime. £1 5s 6d to £1 6s 6d; secondary and plain, £1 4s to £1 ss; prime young cow and heifer heef, £1 Is to £1 4s; ordinary cow beef. 18a to £' I.
