NEW GUINEA MYSTERY.
NATIVE PRISONERS FREE. ESCAPE FROM RABAUL GAOL. ONLY SICK MAN REMAINS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyricbt. (Received June 128,. 8.58 p.m.) A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. June 28. Mystery surrounds a series of sensations' happenings at Rabaul, New Guinea, in connection with the 16 natives who were charged with murdering two white prospectors in the Nakanai district. These natives were all under arrest, but last week the Federal Government; received a report to the effect that 14 of them had escaped from gaol, that one was dead and one sick. Inquiries for' fuller, details-, have so far met with no response and the department is mystified The gaol at Rabaul is in charge of a white officer, who has command of the native police.
