STRANDED RIVERINA.
MARINE COURT INQUIRY. EVIDENCE OF THE .CAPTAIN. (Received June 28, 11.19 p.m.) A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. June 28. At a sitting of the Marine Court, which is inquiring into the stranding of the Hud-dart-Parker steamer Bivorina, the master, Captain Thomas Parry, stated that the grounding of the steamer was due to the abnormal set of the current toward tho land. Witness said this put the iiiverina about. 13 miles out of her course. Until he saw breakers ahead he thought he was well away from the land. Two or three minutes later the vessel struck. The inquiry was adjourned till Thursday. the Hivei-ina left Ho hart for Sydney at noon on -Saturday, April 16. She experienced fresh weather until Sunday morning, when the wind lose to a gale and heavy seas from the south-east were encountered, The visibility became bad and toward dusk the thick clouds overhead were accompanied by liervy ram. The vessel went, ashore one ami a-lialt miles from Gabo Island, off the coast, ol Victoria, at 7.15 p.m. on a snrfdy bottom. The ship' carried 142 passengers and her crew numbered about 100 men. All were safely landed subsequently.
