GLEN EDEN DISTRICT.
WEST COAST ROAD WORK, The Glen Eden Town Board met on Monday evening, the chairman, Mr. W. H. Shepherd, presiding. The engineer's estimate for the construction of a tar and bitumen-sealed surface on the West Coast Road, as recommended by the recent commission, is £12,111, exclusive of bridges. The clerk was instructed to send copies of the estimate and specifications to the several parties concerned. A motion that the appointment of the town clerk be a full-time one was defeated. A further resolution that the matter be reconsidered at a more opportune time was carried. The sum of £2l was received from the City Council, being the districts's share of motor vehicle and drivers' licence fees for the year ended March 31. The estimates for the current year were submitted by the Finance Committee, and after a long discussion these were confirmed* and rates struck amounting to a total of 7 11-64 din the £. This is an increase of 25 per cent, on the previous rates. The installation of four additional street lights as recommended by the Finance Committee was approved. In view of the position as disclosed by the estimates, the proposal to spend more money on alterations and additions to the hall was abandoned. The proposal to establish a public pound was withdrawn.
