MAORI HOSPITAL FEES.

BURDIIN ON RATEPAYERS. DESIRE FOR ALLEVIATION. [BY TELECIRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON, Thursday. A report relating to the cost of hospital treatment and relief of Maoris in the Waikato hospital district, was submitted to a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board by the secretary, Mr. E. G. Johnson. The report ,stated that the response had been very satisfactory td the board's request to the other boards in the North Island, and tike contributing local bodies in the Waikatlo hospital district for support in representations to the Government for special reliaf on account of the undue proportion of Maoris resident in the district. A return showed that fees duo from the treatment' of 21$ Maori patients during the vear ended Mairch 31, 1927, were £2049. The amount actually received was only £125. The report was adopted, and it was decided to make Aurther representations to the Minister andl local members of Parliament enclosing ;» copy of the return. It was further decided that the Hospital Boards' Association be asked to take the matter up, in accordance with the resolution passed at tjhe last Hospital Boards Conference.
