CIVIC SQUARE LAND.

THE LEASING OF, SECTIONS. COMPLETE PLANS DESIRED. DISCUSSION BY THE COUNCIL. The question of offering for lease available sections on the Civic Square was discussed by the Auckland City Council last evening. Tho Parks Committee, to which the plans adopted at the last meeting were referred, -recommended that tho whole of tho block at the corner of Queen Street and Wellesley West, together with all the in tho other three blocks, should bo offered for lease as and when the committee considered desirablo. "Is there to be a subdivision plan ? asked Mr. A. J. Entrican. Tho council had had only an ordinary plan before it at the previous meeting. Miss E. Melville said she considered jl the committee had gone beyond its refer-'t-ence in recommending that the blocks should be offered for lease "as and when ft he committee considered desirable." That might hold up the matter for five jnears. The Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, said it whs the intention to offer first the block at the corner of Queen Street and Wellesley Street West, and then, if there was a demand, to offer the available sections in -,lhe other blocks. It was not intended to hold up the matter. A.Er. J. Dempsey moved as an amendment that the block at tho corner of Queeai Street and Wellesley Street West be olfered for lease at the earliest pos- ! siblo <clate, but the proposal was defeated. An amendment by Mr. Entrican that the plans be referred back to the comin order that tho sections might be properly defined and the whole of the sections made available at tho earliest opportunity, was carried.
