BREACHES OF BY-LAWS.

PROSECUTION OF MOTORISTS. THE DUTIES OF CYCLISTS. For breaches of the by-laws many motorists and drivers of other vehicles were prosecuted in the Police Court yesterday by the police and the chief traffic inspector, Mr. G. R. Ilogan. For speeding at Northcote, Neville Holier was fined £1 10s and costs. Reggie D. Cox, for speeding on a motor-cycle on the Great South Road, was fined £1 and costs, and he was fined a further 10s and costs for not having a driver's licence. Dangerous driving cost James McGlinchey £2 and costs, while fines of £1 and costs were imposed on Jack Cardwell King and John Zainev for Similar offences. Tom Wilki was fined £1 and costs for negligent driving and Henry James Gilmore was fined 10s and costs for a similar breach. For stopping near the end of a safety zone, Nicholas C. Edwards was fined £1 and costs. For failure to have their vehicles lighted Frederick Arnold, Norman Royle Chapman and Donald V. Malcolm were fined 10s and costs. Against Malcolm there was also a charge of driving a bicycle without a rear reflector. This was the first case brought under the new regulations and a fine of 10s and costs was imposed The magistrate said cyclists did not realise the risks they took in not adopting precautions. For driving an unregistered mojor-car H. R. N. Miller was fined £1 and costs. Driving without a licence cost. Frank Hampton Housiaux 10s and costs, and for driving without his assigned number plates a similar fine was imposed on John darken. A fine of 5s and costs was imposed on R. C. Robinson for riding a bicycle on a footpath. Ambrose J. Lewis was ordered to pay costs for failing to produce vehicles for inspection.
