GIRL KILLED BY LORRY.
CASE AGAINST ' DRIVER. ALLEGATION OF NEGLIGENCE. [BX TELEGRAPH. —-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Wednesday. As the outcome of a fatality at the intersection of five streets at tho north end of Seddon Park, Frankton, on the morning of March 15, when a girl named Alice Myra Morris was killed, a young man, Edward Miller Rouse (Mr. H. J. McMuHin), was charged before Mr. Justice Herdman in the Hamilton Supreme Court to-day with driving a motor-lorry in a negligent manner and causing the death of Miss Morris. Accused pleaded not guilty. Evidence -was given by tho Court bailiff, Michael McCormick, that he saw the accused driving a lorry slowly on the wrong side of the road at the intersection. Witness saw the lorry strike the girl. It was ■within sft. of the right footpath of Seddon Road and pulled up within a few paces. . Dr. W. Fulton said the girls death was due to a fractured skull and neck. The body was severely lacerated. A schoolgirl said she saw Miss Morris ■walk to the ccntro of the road and then run back into the track of the lorry. She saw the accused signal. Iho lorry was not going fast. Several other witnesses gave corroborative evidence. The Crown Solicitor. Mr. H. T. Gillies, said the Crown did not allege that accused was travelling fast or that he failed to signal. What was alleged was that he failed to keep to the correct side of the road and so was negligent. Evidence for the defence will bo heard to-morrow.
